Deutscher Luftsport Verband (DLV) or German Air Sports Formation was a formed in 1933 with a consolidation of civilian air clubs as a method to recruit Germans with flight experience into the NSDAP. Once the Luftwaffe was officially formed the DLV was program was shut down. This example was mfg by Gebr. Heller a company that was established prior to 1899 and specialized in high quality knives and daggers during WWII. The company was ceased operations at the end of the war. Mounted with nickel silver plated fittings. K marked crossguard. The blade is marked with the makers mark of a man holding 6 ballons over GEBR. HELLER / MARIENTHAL / b. SCHWEINA/THR. The scabbard and grip are wrapped in blue Morrocan leather. The scabbard throat is marked with the DLV's german proof. The brown leather hang strap is present. CONDITION: overall very good. The blade is in fine condition with some scabbard scuffing. The plating on the fittings has mostly flaked and is primarily in the protected areas. The buffer leather between the dagger and scabbard is very fine. The blue leather is very fine with some mild dings. The leather hanger is moderately worn. Crisp markings. (02-24983/ZAL).
